Skin tags are growths of skin most commonly around the neck, under axilla, breasts, in the groin and on the eyelids. Friction, obesity and diabetes are associated with the development of skin tags. While a skin tag is not a dangerous lesion, the value in having them examined is to make sure they truly are skin tags and not some other more serious condition.
While some skin tags may get irritated by clothing or jewelry, removal of tags is usually considered a cosmetic procedure by insurance. Removing skin tags does not prevent or encourage new tags to grow. If you do not like your skin tags, it will be our pleasure at Piedmont Dermatology Center to remove them for you.
